A RESOLUTION OF THE LIBRARY BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE CITY OF MISSION VIEJO TO AMEND THE MISSION VIEJO LIBRARY INTERNET USE POLICY

WHEREAS, in response to advances in technology and the changing needs of the community, the Mission Viejo Library endeavors to develop collections, resources and services that meet the cultural, informational, recreational, and educational needs of the community. Public use of the Internet in the library is a service that expands access to information and resources not readily available elsewhere in the City of Mission Viejo.

WHEREAS, use of the Internet shall be consistent with the Library's mission, goals policies and procedures, and with applicable local, state, federal, and international laws. Inappropriate or illegal use of this resource in the library, including but not limited to infringement of copyright laws and the tampering with of computer software of hardware, is prohibited and can result in the loss of library privileges.

WHEREAS, the Mission viejo Library has no control over the information accessed through the Internet and is not responsible for the nature of nor accuracy of any information accessed on the Internet. Library patrons are advised, as with all library materials, to exercise judgment and discrimination when evaluating the usefulness and reliability of materials found on the Internet.

WHEREAS, as in the case with other resources in the Library collection, any restriction of a child's (under the age of 18) access to the Internet is the responsibility of the parent or legal guardian who must authorize with signature on the library card application, permission for their child to access and use the Internet.

NOW THEREFORE THE LIBRARY BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE CITY OF MISSION VIEJO HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:

In order to attempt to block sites which might be considered objectionable, blocking software has been installed on all library computer workstations. The blocking software is set to block gaming sites and adult content sites on the Internet. The Library cannot and does not guarantee that the blocking software will always block objectionable sites.
