Public use of the Internet includes the computers in the Technology Center as well as a wireless Internet service accessible for laptop users inside the library. The library provides basic information on connecting to this service but does not provide technical support for laptop users.
The Mission Viejo Library has an automated "Sign In" system. Library users may access the Internet and other computer resources at no charge on a first-come, first-served basis by following these guidelines:
 |
A current Mission Viejo Library card is required in order to use the Internet. You must have your card with you at the time you sign on to an Internet computer.
Don't have a Mission Viejo Library Card, but need a computer? You may purchase the use of one of our Visitor Cards for $2 at our Check Out Desk. This service is available for adults only.
|
 |
Patrons under the age of
18 must have parental permission to use the
Internet. Parents are required to state whether
their child has permission to access the
Internet and other computer resources at the
time their child applies for a library card.
Children's computers may be used by youth ages 6
to 12. The 6 teen computers located to the left
of the reference desk, may be used by young
adults, ages 13-17. Technology Center computers
may be used by patrons 18 years of age and up.
All computers, including wireless access, are
subject to Internet filtering; gambling and
adult sites are blocked. A list of blocked web
sites is updated on a regular basis. However,
there is no guarantee that inappropriate sites
will not be accessible. You may not display text
or graphics that may be construed as obscene,
pornographic, or offensive to other patrons or
staff. Anyone found accessing such materials
will be asked to leave and Internet privileges
will be suspended for three months. Parents of
users under 18 years of age will be notified. |
 |
The computerized system
will time out automatically. Save your work
often to a diskette, USB drive, or the “Z” drive
as computers will time out after the warning.
Computer diskettes may be purchased for $1.00
from the Friends of the Library Book Store. |
 |
Do not leave the computer unattended during your session.
If you need to step away for a few minutes,
please put your computer on “pause”. |
 |
Mission Viejo Library is not responsible for damage to any user's diskette or any loss of data, damage, or liability that may occur from a patrons use of Library computers.
|
 |
You may not use the Internet to access chat rooms or instant messaging. Anyone found accessing instant messaging, chat rooms or interactive games involving chat will be asked to leave and Internet privileges will be suspended for one month.
