Library Cards and Lending Policies

How to Apply for a Library Card

Mission Viejo Library cards are free to most and are available regardless of where you live in California.  Huntington Beach and Santa Ana residents are charged a $25 annual fee.  You may simply bring your completed application to the library, or you may use our new interactive online form:

Applying In Person Is As Easy As 1-2-3

You will need:

  1. A completed application form:
    Printable Adult Library Card Application
    Printable Youth Library Card Application
     

  2. Valid identification (Current California Driver’s License or ID).
     

  3. Proof of current mailing address (e.g. checkbook or utility bill) and telephone number.

A parent or guardian must be present to show identity and sign for children under the age of 18 applying for a library card. Parents or guardians can indicate on the library card application form that they give their children permission to use the Internet.

Apply Online

  1. Go to our online application page, then immediately click on the “Get a Library Card” button in middle of page and complete our online application form.
     

  2. Come to the Library within 30 Days to pick up your card, and tell the Library staff that you applied via our Web site. Don’t forget to bring:
    Valid identification (Current California Driver’s License or ID).
    Proof of current mailing address (e.g. checkbook or utility
    bill) and telephone number.

A parent or guardian must be present to show identity and sign for children under the age of 18 applying for a library card.

Your responsibility as a library borrower

You must show identification and proof of address to apply for a library card.
Children under the age of 18 who are applying for a library card must be accompanied by a parent.
You must have your card for all transactions - including Internet and Study Room use.
Fines are charged for overdue items (see table below).
You are responsible for notifying the library of address or telephone number changes, or if your card is lost or stolen.
In order to recover outstanding materials, overdue accounts of $50.00 or more will be billed.  If the bill is not resolved within 10 days, the account will be turned over to a collection agency.  There is a $15 non-refundable collection agency charge.
