Book Resource Information - States

To ensure that all resources are equally available to everyone, the Mission Viejo Library has a three (3) book subject limit per family.

Book Resources

State books are nonfiction and are shelved according to their Dewey Decimal Number. Most of the books on the same subject are then shelved together. If you would like to find books in the Reference collection (Juvenile or Adult) or in the Adult Non-Fiction collection, the number is the same.  The letter "J" in front of the call number signifies that it is in the Juvenile collection. Below two numbers are given for specific states; first number indicates state travel books; second general, and history information.

Reference Resources

Reminder: Reference resources are those that must be used in the library. You can make copies but they cannot be checked out. One exception is our "Circulating Encyclopedia Collection."  Be aware that when doing research in the Public Library, you may have to use Reference sources since the Library is unable to carry enough books for everyone on a subject.

Individual state books: We have an individual book for each state in the Reference collection. The Dewey Decimal Number is the same for the states listed in the previous section.
